Blade or Mallet? A Guide to Choosing Your Putter Cover

Oct 16, 2026

A simple guide to putter shapes, fit checks and choosing a cover that belongs in your setup.

Noir Reserve Croc Mallet Putter Cover

Your putter is a personal choice. Its cover should suit the head underneath it just as well as it suits the rest of your bag. Start with shape, check the dimensions, then choose your finish.

Recognize the shape

A blade putter generally has a narrow, elongated head. A mallet has a broader head, often extending farther behind the striking face. These are useful categories, but there are many variations within each one.

Compact mallets, larger modern designs and unusual neck positions can make a visual guess unreliable. The name of the putter model is a better starting point than appearance alone.

Check more than the label

A cover described as “blade” or “mallet” is not a guarantee that it fits every putter in that category. Compare your club with the fit details on the individual product page.

Pay attention to the width, depth and height of the head, along with where the shaft enters it. A cover should accommodate the head and close comfortably. Do not force the closure to make an uncertain fit work.

Ask before choosing

If you are unsure, send SKINS the brand and exact model of your putter. A clear photograph of the head and shaft connection can help explain an unusual shape. We can help you review the available covers before you order.

Finish with your own style

Once the shape is right, consider the rest of your setup. Match a croc-embossed finish to your bag, repeat a favorite color, or let the putter cover introduce a subtle contrast. Fit gives you the practical foundation; the finish makes it yours.
